Tracy rejoins DRR for Indy 500

The 2003 Champ Car champion raced for Dreyer & Reinbold three times last year, as one of a number of drivers who stepped in to fill the cockpit left vacant by Mike Conway's Indianapolis accident.

Though Tracy's efforts to put together a full-time IndyCar return or at least an expanded partial programme have not yet paid off, he was pleased to get an Indy 500 seat in place.

"Obviously it feels great to be back with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing," he said.

"It's been a chaotic winter, but it's good to have the deal stowed away with a competitive programme lined up with [sponsor] WIX Filters and DRR for the Indianapolis 500.

"It's great to be with a team like DRR, they have quality equipment and a solid engineering group with Larry Curry. It's a relief to have this deal done from that standpoint."

Tracy joins full-time drivers Justin Wilson and Ana Beatriz in Dreyer & Reinbold's Indy 500 line-up. Though he failed to qualify with KV last year, Tracy finished ninth in the 2009 event and came very close to winning in 2002 - when he was officially listed as second to Helio Castroneves after a controversial late yellow flag call that Tracy felt unfairly deprived him of victory.
