Taylor signs for Access

British rookie Mark Taylor is to make a return to the IRL IndyCar Series with Greg Ray's Access Motorsport team, having been dropped from the Panther squad prior to the race at Kansas two week's ago, where he was replaced by former Champ Car and F3000 driver Townsend Bell

Owner driver Ray also missed the race in Kansas due to a lack of funds and Taylor has now taken his seat in the car while the American works to secure the team's finances for 2005.

Taylor dominated IRL's feeder Infiniti Pro Series last year with seven wins, but despite flashes of brilliance, the 26-year-old Englishman struggled to maintain consistent form this year, crashing on several occasions. The new deal means he can now complete his rookie season with the Indianapolis-based Access team.

"I am delighted to be back in the IRL with Access Motorsports for the rest of this season," said Taylor. "I have already had my seat fitting and the team are very committed to achieving some good results in the nine races we have left to run."

Ray reckons that he will able to help release Taylor's potential in the category: "Mark's pace and learning curve have been impressive to date; he's run near the front all year and recently qualified 3rd at Richmond. There's no doubt this kid is quick. We know Mark has the raw talent, that is without question. We want to give Mark the tools to continue the form he demonstrated when dominating last years Infiniti Pro Series."

"Away from the cockpit temporarily I have decided to focus my time on the business that will insure our growth to a healthy and competitive two-car programme for 2005. I look forward to building our personal working relationship quickly as we could be team-mates next season."
