Strategy error worries Franchitti
Dario Franchitti was critical of the Ganassi team for not informing him that he was running low on fuel in the final stint of the Texas IndyCar race
The Scot dropped from fourth to fifth behind Marco Andretti when he slowed on the last lap as his fuel situation became apparent, but felt this could have been avoided.
"The biggest problem I had was the fuel mileage," said Franchitti.
"If they would have told me that from the start, I would have done a lot better and saved fuel. I gave away a place tonight, and I hope it doesn't cost us at the end of the year."
Franchitti famously won the 2007 title after his rival and now team-mate Scott Dixon ran out of fuel as they battled for the lead on the last lap of the Chicagoland decider.
In addition to his disappointment at the strategy, Franchitti was also frustrated by his car's performance, having dropped back in the race after taking pole position.
"It was slow," he said. "It was just slow all night."
Dixon, who finished third in Ganassi's other car, was more positive about his pace, but admitted that Penske - which finished one-two with Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe, and reclaimed the points lead with the latter - was unbeatable on the night.
"The Penske cars were definitely hooked up," Dixon said. "The Target [Ganassi] cars weren't too bad. We just need to work on it a little bit."
