Scott Dixon quickest in second practice on Indianapolis road course
Scott Dixon went quickest in the second IndyCar practice session on the Indianapolis road course, snatching the top time from Simon Pagenaud in the final two minutes
Practice one pacesetter Will Power spent much of the session at the top of the times, before Bourdais dropped a 1m09.9944s lap to go top with 10 minutes remaining by just 0.0002s.
Pagenaud had been setting a series of consistent times in the top three before hitting the summit with a 1m09.9894s.
But Dixon went even faster to claim the top spot with just one minute remaining by pumping in a lap 0.1613s quicker than Pagenaud.
The Hondas were able to challenge for frontrunning pace with Andretti Herta's Alexander Rossi impressing despite an early spin causing a red flag, and Schmidt Peterson's James Hinchcliffe traded the quickest times with Pagenaud halfway through.
Graham Rahal ultimately ended the day as the top Honda in his Rahal Letterman Lanigan entry in third, 0.1615s off Dixon's pace.
Cloudy weather looked set to throw a curveball into the proceedings, prompting the teams to prepare wet weather tyres, but the rain held off to maintain a dry, and largely clean session.
Spencer Pigot impressed by finishing highest of the part-time competitors, setting a time good enough for 12th.
AJ Foyt's Indianapolis 500 latecomer Alex Tagliani was 19th outpaced Formula 1 refugee Max Chilton, while Matt Brabham was just over a second off the pace in 24th.
