Scheckter Triumphs at Texas

Tomas Scheckter won his first race since 2002 as he held off Sam Hornish to win the Bombardier Learjet 500 at Texas Motor Speedway last night

Scheckter lost the lead at the final round of pit stops to Kanaan, but retook it in the closing laps to just hold off Hornish, with Tony Kanaan and Scott Sharp close behind.

Scheckter led the most laps during the race to take the win after starting the race from pole position. Kanaan's use of strategy allowed him to be the other driver to lead a substantial part of the race.

There were four cautions in the opening 71 laps but from there the race ran caution free, with thirteen cars finishing on the lead lap, nineteen cars making it to the finish.

Despite an equal worst result of the season for Dan Wheldon with sixth, he remains well clear in the title chase, 65 points ahead of teammate Tony Kanaan and 76 points ahead of Penske's Sam Hornish.
