Rahal Letterman Lanigan undergoes changes amid poor season
Rahal Letterman Lanigan has undergone an engineering reshuffle as it works to reverse its inconsistent form during the opening half of the IndyCar season
Gerry Hughes, who was race engineer to Graham Rahal, has been named head of development for the team's IndyCar programme, with Neil Fife joining the squad to take over engineering duties on Rahal's car.
Fife, who was race engineer to Ryan Hunter-Reay for RLL's most recent win at Watkins Glen in 2008, was available after his recent split with Dragon Racing, where he served as race engineer to Sebastien Bourdais.
Mitch Evans, who was most recently team manager for Ganassi's satellite outfit, has also joined RLL to assume the role of crew chief for the cars of both Rahal and James Jakes.
"I'm really pleased about these additions of personnel and roles," said team co-owner Bobby Rahal.
"I want to thank Gerry for his hard work and efforts over the past year and a half as race engineer and I'm grateful that he has taken on the new role as head of development to ensure our success in the future.
"I'm confident that [Neil] and Graham will work well together and we can have a successful last third of the season. Finally, having Mitch join the team is the result of a courtship of many, many years.
"He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge with him and will ensure that the cars are put on the race track according to specification. These changes will be a big plus for us going forward."
Both Rahal and Jakes have finished on the podium this year, however poor results elsewhere leave them 17th and 18th respectively in the standings ahead of next week's race at Mid-Ohio.
