Qualifying: Andretti Green one-two

Tony Kanaan has claimed the pole position for Sunday's opening round of the IRL IndyCar Series, beating out his Andretti Green Racing team boss Michael Andretti to start at the front of the grid

The Brazilian lapped the 1.5-mile oval in 26.5278s, an average speed of 203.560mph. As well as being his first race since moving over from the rival Champ Car World Series, it also gives engine supplier Honda pole for its debut IRL race.

Reigning champion Sam Hornish Jr will start third, despite fears that the Chevrolet engine he uses is under-powered compared to its Japanese rivals. The Toyota-powered Penske duo of Helio Castroneves and Gil de Ferran will start fourth and fifth, meaning that all three engine manufacturers have placed a car in the top four of qualifying.

Scott Sharp, who set the pace in practice but crashed his car in this morning's practice session, will start from sixth on the grid, with the third Andretti Green car of Dario Franchitti seventh
