Preview: Unser targets repeat win

In 1983, Al Unser, then 44, won the CART championship. Two years later, at 46, he did it again. Unser Jr comes into Sunday's Honda Indy 225 second in IRL points behind Tony Kanaan. Age, it seems, doesn't matter.

"It truly can be done," Unser said. "The reason why is because I'm enjoying what I'm doing. I love driving these cars. And as long as I enjoy it and I'm competitive, then we're going to keep doing it."

Gil de Ferran and Buddy Lazier won the past two IRL races at Pikes Peak. On the other hand, Kanaan has never raced at the short tri-oval with 10-degree banking.

"Hopefully, Pikes Peak will be the same story for us," said Kanaan, who finished second in his first race at Texas. "We're coming in with the same hat on that we had at Texas. If we have a car to win, we're going to win. If we don't, we're going to try to finish as high as we can because we are looking at the big picture."

He'll get his first look at the track on Saturday, when IRL cars practice and qualify. The race, the sixth on the 16-race IRL schedule, is set for 4 pm EDT on Sunday.

Dario Franchitti also will see a couple of firsts - his first IRL race since March 23 at Phoenix and his first race at Pikes Peak. Franchitti was injured in a motorcycle wreck. Bryan Herta, who replaced Franchitti in the Andretti Green Racing No. 26 Honda/Dallara, will compete this weekend in the CART race at Laguna Seca.

Jaques Lazier will continue to replace Airton Dare in AJ Foyt's Dallara-Toyota while Dare recovers from injuries sustained last weekend at Texas.
