The countdown to the Indy 500 has started again, and the drivers are preparing for the off
The pre-race ceremonies have started, and a start is expected at around 8pm UK time (3pm local)
Al Unser Jr., starting from 18th, is unfazed by the delays, but eager to get on with proceedings.
"It's a shame we got this rain delay," he said, adding "even this rain can't dampen my spirits."
Rookie Sarah Fisher, the youngest driver starting, took the opportunity to make sure she was as sharp as possible come the start, by taking a rest.
"I just had a little nap in the motorhome, so I guess I have another fresh start at it," said the 19 year old.
"We're just going to go at it like we were before."
Team owners AJ Foyt and Eddie Cheever were at pains to make sure the tension did not overcome the drivers.
"It builds up more energy in everyone," he acknowledged.
"I told my boys we've got to be in it at the end."
Eddie Cheever, the owner-driver, had spoken with Mark Dismore who shares the same row, and was pleased with his chances for the start.
"He said we have 500 miles to go, and he will hold his line," said Cheever.
"It's good to have someone intelligent on your flank. I've had an accident on the first lap, and it's silly."
