Nunn confirms Toyota engines for IRL

The Morris Nunn racing outfit has officially confirmed that it will use Toyota power in the Indy Racing League next season, as has been widely anticipated

Nunn confirms Toyota engines for IRL

The deal allows the team, which finished fourth in this year's championship with Felipe Giaffone, to expand to two cars next year. Nunn's squad is the fourth to sign up for the Japanese manufacturer in its first IRL season, alongside Team Penske, Kelley Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing.

Team boss Mo Nunn said: "Based on our performance in 2002, we have great confidence that both of our cars will be in the thick of the championship hunt in '03. Felipe, [team manager] Peter Parrott and the entire team were so good all season, and our showing at the Indy 500 was a real shot in the arm for the programme we are building. Going to two cars is a logical step for us and partnering with Toyota makes our outlook incredibly promising."

Jim Aust, vice-president of Toyota Motorsports said: "Mo Nunn Racing showed itself to be an elite-level team by finishing fourth overall in the team's first season of IRL competition, and we're thrilled that they've chosen to campaign Toyota engines in 2003. Felipe Giaffone has established himself as one of the top young drivers in the sport."

Nunn has yet to confirm any plans for his CART team, which ran one car this season for Tony Kanaan. The Brazilian is switching to the IRL next season with Andretti Green Racing.
