Moreno Delighted to be Back in Action

Racing veteran Roberto Moreno has made a brief return to the single-seater cockpit during Indy Racing League testing at Infineon Raceway, in his latest role as driver coach for Ed Carpenter

The 46-year old Brazilian, who won two Champ Car races during his long career, has not driven a contemporary single-seater since his Champ Car career came to an end in 2003. But he proved he had lost none of his ability as he lapped on the pace during the road course evaluation test.

Clearly delighted with his temporary return to action, Moreno said: "I was so surprised today with how good these cars are. These cars remind me of the good days in Formula One, the late 1980s and early 1990s.

"They have a lot of grip and a fantastic feel. I really enjoyed it. I have to thank (team owner) Tony (George) and Ed and (team manager) Larry (Curry) for asking me to test. I'm here to help them with the setup and help Ed get going on the road courses."

Moreno has been drafted in to help Carpenter adjust to road course racing, and used the first day of the test to get himself acquainted with the Infineon track and the IRL car prior to Carpenter's first running on Wednesday.
