McGehee joins Cheever line-up for Texas

Robby McGehee, the 1999 Indy 500 rookie of the year, will join fellow American drivers Eddie Cheever and Buddy Rice at Red Bull Cheever Racing for this weekend's Chevy 500 at Texas Motor Speedway

McGehee, 29, will drive the number 53 Cheever Racing Dallara-Infiniti in the season finale this weekend. Cheever's team previously ran three cars when Tomas Scheckter was a part of the squad, before his acrimonious split that seems certain to end up in court.

"I think this will be the best opportunity I've had in an Indy car to win a race," said McGehee. "The Infiniti [engine] has great power, and the Red Bull Cheever Racing team works hard to make their cars fast. I am really excited to be a part of this program. I want to thank Eddie and the entire team for this opportunity."

Team owner and driver Eddie Cheever said: "An opportunity came up to run Robbie. Since this is the last race for this equipment, I am glad to give a driver of his calibre a ride for this weekend's race. I will be equally happy if any of the three Red Bull cars win on Sunday."
