Manning chasing Indy success
Darren Manning has set his sights on winning America's biggest race this year. The Briton told fans at AUTOSPORT International that he thinks he's in with a chance to take the Indianapolis 500
Manning moves from Walker Racing and the CART series to top team Chip Ganassi Racing in the all-oval Indy Racing League for the first time in 2004.
"As a driver you always think about winning Le Mans, Indy and the British Grand Prix. Now I've got a chance to tick one of those off."
Manning watched the 500 from the grandstands last year, and says that Indy will be the highlight of a season for which he has high expectations. He's joining one of America's most renowned teams.
"The equipment and facilities at Chip Ganassi are amazing. Seventy people working there, and just for two IRL cars! I think the championship is a very realistic goal for me this year. I'll be looking to finish in the top five at all the races."
"For the first time I've got a quick team-mate [IRL champion Scott Dixon] to measure myself against. But there will be plenty of opposition from the Penske, Panther and Andretti teams."
