Lloyd joins N/H/L for Homestead

Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing has announced that Alex Lloyd will drive its second car in the IndyCar Series season finale at Homestead in October

Former McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner Lloyd had been on a long-term contract with Ganassi since winning the 2007 Indy Lights title in dominant fashion, but the association had only yielded two Indianapolis 500 starts (in Rahal Letterman and Schmidt entries run in collaboration with Ganassi).

With no sign of a full-time Ganassi opening on the horizon, Lloyd parted company with the team earlier this summer to look for other opportunities.

He has now been confirmed alongside Graham Rahal at multiple Champ Car champion squad Newman/Haas/Lanigan for the Homestead event on 10 October.

"Lloyd's championship in the 2007 Indy Lights Series and his terrific drive at the 2009 Indianapolis 500 bodes well for what he and Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing hope to accomplish together," said a team statement.

Newman/Haas/Lanigan started the season with former Formula 1 driver Robert Doornbos paired with Rahal, but the Dutchman left the team for his former Champ Car squad HVM prior to the Lexington race, having been unhappy with his form.

The drive-less Oriol Servia was then recruited by Newman/Haas/Lanigan to fill the gap on a race by race basis, and took seventh place at Chicagoland last weekend. The team has not yet announced who will drive for it in the penultimate race of the season at Motegi later this month.
