Iowa IndyCar: Tony Kanaan completes Ganassi practice sweep
Tony Kanaan continued to set the IndyCar pace at Iowa Speedway after once again going fastest in the second practice session on Friday
In a reprise of the , Kanaan established himself at the top with his third flying lap and remained unbeaten, with team-mate Scott Dixon again rounding out a Ganassi one-two.
There was little to split the pair: Kanaan's 17.7544 seconds, 181.273mph lap was a scant 0.0044mph faster than Dixon's, which translated into 0.0033s in lap time.
"We've always been good here, and I think we have a pretty good set-up," said Kanaan.
"The track suits my style - the short ovals are one of my strengths.
"It's going to be a close qualifying tomorrow, especially with the weather. It's going to be a lot hotter than it was this afternoon.
"But I think we have a pretty good race car."
Ganassi and Penske had the top six locked out between them, with Will Power, Simon Pagenaud and Juan Pablo Montoya finishing just behind the top two, and Charlie Kimball popping up in P6.
It was also a session heavily weighted towards Chevrolet, which finished the day with its cars occupying the top 11 positions.
Andretti's Ryan Hunter-Reay edged ahead of team-mate Justin Wilson right near the end to earn bragging rights as the fastest Honda driver.
Aside from a couple of brief yellows for track inspections, the only hint of drama came when Schmidt's James Jakes was held in the pits for five minutes as punishment for a pit entry violation.
The Brit still found enough time to complete 35 laps, and ended the day with the 18th-fastest time.
