Indianapolis road course: Helio Castroneves fastest in practice
Helio Castroneves waited until the final seconds to secure the top spot in today's third IndyCar practice session on the IMS road course
The Team Penske driver was one of a cluster of drivers to save their best for last and he secured P1 with a lap of 1m10.3756s, squeaking ahead of Sebastien Bourdais by a scant 0.02s.
Close as the times were, the tiny margins only become really apparent with a look further down the timesheets, where the top five were all covered by just over 0.1s.
Early indications that some teams have come to grips with things earlier than others seemed to be borne out by the fact that the top six consisted of exactly the same drivers as yesterday's second session, with Bourdais and Scott Dixon mixing it up with the four Penskes.
Graham Rahal continued to lead the charge for the Honda-powered drivers, although this time he was isolated in the top 10, and a further 0.2s adrift of the frontrunners compared with yesterday afternoon.
