Indianapolis 500 reaches 33 cars as James Davison seals KV seat

James Davison has been confirmed as driver of a fourth KV Racing Technology entry for the 2014 Indianapolis 500, as reported by AUTOSPORT earlier this week

The Australian will drive the team's #33 entry, which also completes the traditional 33-car field for the race.

He will run a part-time programme due to budgetary constraints, meaning that he is scheduled to complete rookie orientation and practice for the first time next Thursday. The rest of the field will begin practice on Sunday.

It will be Davison's third IndyCar start and first on an oval, and he said he is looking forward to the experience.

"It's been my childhood dream to race in and win the Indy 500," said the 27-year-old, whose chassis previously served as Panther Racing's main oval car.

"I have had to work very hard and persevere to get here with KV Racing Technology. Finally, it's arrived and I have a fantastic opportunity with the reigning Indianapolis 500 champion team.

"I feel I have the best of chances to do well."

Davison was runner-up in the 2009 Indy Lights championship although in recent years he has primarily raced in sportscars. He is currently part of the TRG-AMR line-up in the United SportsCar Series.
