Hildebrand tests for Dale Coyne

Indy Lights champion JR Hildebrand is hoping to secure an IndyCar deal with Dale Coyne Racing after testing for the team at Sebring earlier this week

Dale Coyne is currently looking for a new driver for 2010 after Justin Wilson's departure for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, but has new backing from the Boy Scouts of America. He has already named Hildebrand and race winner Graham Rahal - whose Newman/Haas/Lanigan deal has expired - as his prime targets, although it is not yet clear whether Coyne will be able to field one or two cars this year.

Hildebrand said that with Coyne having long planned to test this week and talks with the team making progress, testing together was a logical step.

"I've been itching to get back in a car," said Hildebrand, who also tested for the Force India Formula 1 team over the winter but saw its reserve role go to Paul di Resta instead.

"I've been talking to Dale the last couple of weeks and he had scheduled this test day, so he invited me to come out.

"We're still trying to sort things out because the season is coming very quickly, but we are both in that boat. We'll just see how things look in a couple of weeks. Those important decisions have to be made quickly, but from both of our standpoints [the] test day went well."

Coyne's team took its first win in 25 years of trying with Wilson at Watkins Glen last year, and was a frontrunner at most road and street courses while also edging forward on the ovals.
