Graham Rahal is confident he can challenge for pole in Mid-Ohio
Graham Rahal is confident he can maintain his form moving into qualifying for the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio after setting the pace in opening practice on Friday
The 22-year-old insisted that while the track conditions were not suited to consistently fast running, his position on the timesheets is an indication of his Ganassi car's potential ahead of the weekend.
"I think our car is pretty good," said Rahal, who grew up near to the circuit. "We did a great job in the test here and we are carrying that over so I am pretty proud of my team.
"I felt pretty confident coming in to this weekend and I think we can keep it going. For sure we didn't get all... we could easily have gone a couple of tenths faster than that so I am definitely pleased with the performance.
"We just need to try and build upon this, it's the perfect way to start our weekend and we just need to keep going."
"I think we have a shot," he added. "This is a good statement for us and we are going to just keep working on this."
Rahal nearly had a collision with Tony Kanaan during the 75 minute session when he tried to pass the Brazilian on the straight.
"I was inside Kanaan going down the backstraight and I don't think he realised anybody was behind him and I pulled inside of him and he just drove straight over," explained Rahal. "I had nowhere to go so I dropped a wheel on the middle of the straightaway.
"It was the best thing I could do so it was lucky that nothing else happened."
