Ganassi to Go Pink

Target Chip Ganassi Racing's IRL cars will be painted pink this weekend to raise breast cancer awareness

In collaboration with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the team will use the race cars as vehicles to help promote breast cancer awareness among racing fans.

Watkins Glen winner Scott Dixon piloted the livery at the California Speedway last year, and he will be joined by teammate Jaques Lazier with the special paint job this weekend at the Fontana circuit. Both will wear pink highlighted overalls for the occasion.

"I had the privilege to drive the pink Target car in last year's race at California Speedway and I was really impressed with the overwhelming response we had from fans, media and other teams as well," said Dixon.

"It's a cause that touches us all and it's great that the team was able to take it a step further this year and field two pink cars. We hope to make an even greater impact in this year's race and certainly a trip to victory circle would help that effort and bring our 2005 season to a much more satisfying end."

Ganassi's NASCAR driver Casey Mears also started the campaign with a pink livery at Talladega and Kansas earlier this month, and he will continue to use the livery for the next three Nextel Cup races.

"Last year I didn't know what to think about driving a pink car, now I can't wait to race it," Mears said.

"I was touched by so many stories that fans shared with me last year, that it is an honour to be part of Target's initiative again to raise awareness and money for a foundation that will ultimately save lives."
