Franchitti fourth in comeback race
Aside from a late-race position loss that cost him a spot on the podium, Scotland's Dario Franchitti returned triumphantly to racing in the IRL IndyCar Series on Sunday at Pikes Peak
Franchitti finished fourth in Sunday's race after running third throughout the late stages. Gil de Ferran slipped past Franchitti on a restart with five laps left, right before a caution period that forced the race to end under yellow.
"We were ahead of Gil on the last restart, but then I was blocked by some lapped cars," said Franchitti, racing for the first time since March 23 while recovering from injuries sustained in a motorcycle wreck. "We ran side-by-side into turn one, and he pretty much ran me up into the gray. That's how I lost third."
Franchitti was up to speed quickly, running flat just a few laps into his first practice session Saturday.
"It was hard out there," he said. "With the amount of downforce we run on these cars, it gave me a great work-out. This is a good way to come back after being out of the car for 10 weeks. It is something to build on."
