First Season Pole for Franchitti
Dario Franchitti claimed his first IRL pole position of the season, ahead of the final round of 2005 at the California Speedway
Franchitti beat Tomas Scheckter, who came in second, by a mere half a mile, the Scot lapping the two-mile oval at 219.389mph, while the South African ran a fast lap of 218.902mph.
Third on the grid will be Sam Hornish Jr, with Danica Patrick alongside him in fourth. Her teammate, Buddy Rice, qualified fifth.
Franchitti admitted he would particularly wish to win tomorrow's race. "I'll take any race win, but to win the last race of the season allows you to go into the offseason on a high note," the Scotsman said.
"It would really mean a lot to win this won tomorrow."
