Dixon targets IRL crown
Erstwhile points leader Scott Dixon believes he can still win the Indy Racing League title this season, even though he hasn't won since Richmond in June and Penske's Helio Castroneves has been victorious in two of the last three rounds
Dixon lies fourth in the standings going into round 14 of the 16-round series at Chicagoland this weekend.
"It's come down to these last three races," said Dixon "and we've got a shot at the title. We'll probably have to win a few of these last races to have a shot at the championship, but I think we've shown that we're capable of doing that. Team Target has proven that they can win championships, and I believe that we can get it done."
Castroneves is at the top of the points table, but the Team Penske driver is not counting his chickens yet. "Penske is coming off three strong races, and we need to keep up the momentum," said the Brazilian. "This series is very competitive, so we need stay focused and get the job done."
Between Castroneves and Dixon in the standings are Team Penske's Gil de Ferran and Andretti Green Racing driver Tony Kanaan, both of whom have professed themselves optimistic about this weekend's race.
