Briscoe seeks a step forward
Toyota Formula 1 test driver and former F3 champion Ryan Briscoe says that his expected move to the USA and the IRL IndyCar Series represents "a good step forward" for his career
The Australian tested with top Toyota-powered team Chip Ganassi Racing recently and is expected to be confirmed soon as the team's third driver alongside Scott Dixon and Darren Manning.
Briscoe has long been backed by Toyota and won the F3 Euroseries under its patronage in 2003, but took a break from competition to undertake his testing duties for Toyota this year. His ultimate aim is still a full-time Formula 1 drive.
The 23-year-old told Autosport magazine: "It's very possible that I will join the team, although we are still finalising the details. The important thing is to keep the contact with Toyota and Ganassi is a top Toyota-powered team."
"I would definitely like to do it. It would be a good step forward and fit in well with where I want to end up, which is racing in F1.
"The Ganassi guys are a cool bunch to work with and I really enjoyed the test, both on the road course and on the oval."
