Bourdais Pushing for Indy 500 Drive
Reigning Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais is pushing for his team Newman-Haas to enter him in the Indianapolis 500
The team is close to announcing a deal for teammate Bruno Junqueira, who has raced twice at the famous event, but Bourdais has now told the Toronto Sun newspaper of his desire to also compete.
"I am ready for it," Bourdais said. "If I never get to race at Indy, I never get experience. They are trying but whether it's going to happen or not, I'll know in a few days."
The race is run to IRL specifications, which means the team would need to build an entirely different car for the one-off event, which is causing some problems. "We will have to find an engine," he said. "I was told there may be an engine shortage."
With just two months remaining ahead of the race any decision to run will need to be made soon, but the decision may come down to obtaining a suitable sponsorship solution. "Financially it's pretty expensive to put a program together - for a Champ Car team like ours it's about a million bucks."
