Beatriz gets DRR seat for Chicago
Ana Beatriz will return to the IndyCar Series with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing at Chicagoland this weekend, as the team continues to slot in various drivers to substitute for the injured Mike Conway
Brazilian driver Beatriz has already raced for the team in an additional car in Sao Paulo and at Indianapolis, and had originally hoped to find sufficient funding to contest most of the season. She is now optimistic that she will be able to join the championship full-time next year in addition to returning for Chicagoland at least.
"During the past three months, my agents, Andre Ribeiro, Augusto Cesario, and I, have been working on establishing a full-season programme for 2011," Beatriz said. "In order to stay fit, I have been karting and I have added a new challenge to my calendar like the Rio de Janeiro Half Marathon.
"I hope my past experience at Chicago pays off with a good finish. I am very excited to be back with the Dreyer & Reinbold team. I wish to thank [team bosses] Dennis Reinbold, Robbie Buhl and Larry Curry for their confidence in me."
Dreyer & Reinbold has yet to announce who will occupy its #24 car in the following events at Kentucky and Motegi. Conway, who suffered multiple injuries in a horrific crash on the final lap of the Indy 500, could return to action for the season finale at Homestead.
Prior to Beatriz's Chicagoland call-up, Tomas Scheckter, Graham Rahal, Paul Tracy and JR Hildebrand had all made appearances in Conway's regular car in his absence.
