Barber IndyCar: Andretti ends Penske domination in second practice

Andretti Autosport's Marco Andretti took his Honda-powered IndyCar to the top of the charts in second practice for the Barber Motorsports Park round

Andretti set the fastest time of the weekend so far, a 1m07.713s two-thirds into the 45-minute session which, like first practice, was delayed by an hour due to damaged barriers earlier in the day.

Team Penske continued its strong form from the first session, with Will Power second and practice one pacesetter Simon Pagenaud in third with Helio Castroneves in fourth.

Power was just 0.032 seconds behind Andretti, while Josef Newgarden was eighth.

Scott Dixon was the highest-placed Ganassi driver, with the four-time champion finishing fifth, three tenths ahead of team-mate Charlie Kimball.

Mikhail Aleshin put his troubled first session to rest, finishing seventh for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.

Points leader Sebastien Bourdais and Ryan Hunter-Reay completed the top 10.

Hunter-Reay brushed the Armco at Turn 2 late into the session, but appeared to avoid significant damage to his Honda-powered car.

There were two stoppages during the session, with Max Chilton bringing out the first for a spin just four minutes in.

Ed Jones caused the second red flag of the afternoon, after his car switched off at Turn 6.
