Andretti willing to apologise to Kanaan
Marco Andretti said he would apologise to his Andretti Green teammate Tony Kanaan if it looked like he was responsible for the Brazilian's crash at Indianapolis
The AGR duo were racing with Ganassi's Scott Dixon in a three-way dice for the lead just after half-distance when Kanaan speared into the wall as Andretti tried to pass him on the inside.
Kanaan was critical of Andretti afterwards, and the latter admitted that he might have been at fault.
"The way I saw it I had an awesome run and I just got to the inside," Andretti said. "I thought I had him cleared, and I stayed as low as I possibly could.
"Maybe I dive-bombed him too late, I don't know, I would have to look at the tape. If so I completely apologise. I still apologise, because you don't want that to ever happen.
"I felt so bad at the time, but I had to try to focus on the task at hand which was to try and win the race."
Andretti eventually finished third behind Scott Dixon and Vitor Meira, and was also frustrated by set-up changes made in the final pitstop. He had animated discussions with his father Michael Andretti and grandfather Mario immediately after the race.
"In hindsight it's easier to point out mistakes afterwards than in the race," he said. "I think as a team we did an awesome. I think the whole month, if you ask me, the Indiana Jones car was one of the ones to beat so it was a team decision to do what we did, and okay we missed, but we messed up as a team.
"We finished third, we got good points, let's move on."
