Andretti Green Fined over Boycott
Organisers of the Indy Racing League have fined Andretti Green Racing an undisclosed amount after the team decided to boycott last week's mandatory autograph session
Dan Wheldon and teammates Tony Kanaan, Dario Franchitti and Bryan Herta did not take part in the official mandatory autograph session at Milwaukee after female rookie Danica Patrick was given her own separate autograph line for the second time this season.
The drivers staged their own hour-long autograph session at their teams merchandise trailer instead.
The protest was a stance against the way the series has promoted Patrick over the series' other drivers. Wheldon won this year's Indy 500 but has been continually outshone for media exposure by Patrick, who finished fourth.
The team were fined for violating Section 7.1 (B) of the IndyCar Series Rule Book (Additional Driver Activities) which states: "During events, IRL shall conduct driver autograph sessions and driver introductions. Failure to participate or failure to attend for the designated amount of time may result in fines and/or other penalties."
Andretti Green Racing are entitled to appeal the penalty, but if they do, they risk it being increased.
