Andretti fastest in Homestead test
Michael Andretti, who will retire from racing in May, set the fastest time on the second day of the IRL IndyCar series test at Homestead-Miami yesterday (Tuesday)
The American turned a lap of 26.0394sec (207.378mph) in his Andretti Green Racing Dallara-Honda and was the only driver to break into the 207mph bracket in the test.
"This was a good two days for us," said Andretti. "We learned a lot. We still have to improve things a little bit, but overall we're pretty good. We're ready for the season to begin. The team has the speed. We just need to make it a little more comfortable for the race. We're ready, basically. We're just as good as anyone else out there."
Penske's Gil de Ferran was second on the day at 26.1178s in his Dallara-Toyota. Scott Sharp was third overall today at 26.1843s, ahead of de Ferran's team-mate Helio Castroneves, who was fastest on Monday.
Scotland's Dario Franchitti was sixth fastest for AGR with a lap of 26.4012s. Both rookie AJ Foyt IV and Buddy Rice crashed during the test, but both were uninjured.
