Andretti Autosport to run Bryan Herta's IndyCar in expanded line-up
Bryan Herta's team will merge with Andretti Autosport for the 2016 IndyCar season
Andretti will run a fourth Honda-powered Dallara alongside its existing entries for Carlos Munoz, Marco Andretti and 2012 IndyCar champion Ryan Hunter-Reay, with crew from Bryan Herta Autosport joining Michael Andretti's outfit.
Herta, who won races with Andretti during his own IndyCar career and ran top rookie Gabby Chaves to 15th in last season's championship as a one-car team, will remain involved as race strategist for the fourth car, while also acting as Andretti Autosport's driver coach.
"Michael has been a long-time friend and Andretti Autosport was a big part of my career," Herta said.
"When the opportunity came together for us to strengthen our organisation, and merge with one of the most successful teams in the sport, it was really a no brainer.
"I'm especially proud that what we've built with all the employees of BHA will remain intact and become part of the fabric of Andretti Autosport."
Andretti's team has won four IndyCar championships and three Indianapolis 500s.
Herta's outfit won the Indy 500 in 2011 with the late Dan Wheldon, after JR Hildebrand crashed at the last corner of the final lap while passing traffic.
Andretti said: "Bryan is a long-time friend. Bringing him and his crew into the family is a great opportunity for all parties to build an even stronger organisation.
"Bryan's experience is a welcome addition to the team. I'm honored to be able to carry on what he started."
The unified squad's fourth driver for the 2016 season will be announced at a later date.
