3G calls up Jaques Lazier for Texas

Team 3G has recruited veteran Jaques Lazier to replace Stanton Barrett for this weekend's Texas IndyCar race

NASCAR regular Barrett has so far struggled to get up to speed in his first IndyCar season - failing to qualify for Indianapolis and then missing last weekend's Milwaukee race due to a practice crash.

3G co-owners Steve Sudler and Greg Beck said Barrett would return later in the season, but that the squad needed a more experienced driver at this stage. Lazier, whose deal for Texas is currently a one-off, completed 50 IndyCar races in a variety of partial programmes between 1999 and 2007, although he has only appeared at Indianapolis in recent years.

"As we continue to lay the foundation and improve as a team, we believe Jaques' experience with these cars will help our team tremendously," said Sudler.

"Now is the time to start building toward 2010 for programmes and sponsorship, and we look forward to giving Stanton a competitive car later this season for Japan and some other events."

Lazier, whose career highlight was a victory at Chicagoland in 2001, hopes to help the team move forward.

"I have been talking with Greg and Steve since Indy," he said, "and I feel really comfortable with where the team is headed and how we can work to grow the programme on ovals and with my sponsors as well."
