Marco Andretti has been fined and placed on probation for ignoring blue flags during Saturday's opening race of this weekend's IndyCar double-header in Houston.
Andretti, who had lost time to repairs after an early clash with team-mate Carlos Munoz, had been caught by race leader Takuma Sato, who in turn was trying to extend his lead over another Andretti driver, James Hinchcliffe.
After several laps, during which Sato's lead was slashed from 3.8 seconds to less than 1.0s, Andretti was finally shown blue flags, however he continued to defend against Sato until the AJ Foyt driver eventually found his own way past.
Andretti was issued a drive-through penalty during the race, however IndyCar officials announced on Sunday morning that he has also been fined $2,500 and placed on probation for the next three races, starting with today's race at Reliant Park.
In addition, Andretti Autosport has been fined $2,500.
