Marco Andretti has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the Andretti Autosport IndyCar team until at least the end of 2015.
The 26-year-old American has driven for the team run by his father Michael since he came to IndyCar in 2006.
"People will say, 'big surprise, of course he re-signed'," Andretti said. "But why wouldn't I? They're one of the best teams."
Andretti, whose car will be sponsored by the Dr Pepper Snapple Group, is yet to break into Victory Lane this year, although his current championship position of fifth is a vast improvement on his disastrous 2012, when he ended the season in 16th.
While encouraged by his improvement, he insists that there is still more that he needs to do.
"It's not about working harder," Andretti said. "It's about working smarter; about where we need to be better. I'm not where I want to be, and I won't until I am a champion."
