Laguna Seca Indy Lights: Spencer Pigot takes lead from Jack Harvey
Spencer Pigot reclaimed the Indy Lights points lead from Jack Harvey with a victory in the first of this weekend's two races at Laguna Seca
Pigot capitalised on an early mistake by polesitter Max Chilton at the Corkscrew to move into the race lead, and held his advantage all the way to the end.
Kyle Kaiser rounded out a one-two for Juncos by finishing second, while Carlin's Ed Jones survived late pressure from Sean Rayhall to complete the podium.
Harvey was forced to settle for a distant fifth on an afternoon where he never had anything close to the pace of the frontrunners.
The result could have been even worse for the Brit had Felix Serralles not dropped out with broken suspension a couple of laps before the finish.
The Belardi driver had been running one place ahead of Harvey at the time, and his problem handed last year's championship runner-up an extra two points, putting the gap between he and Pigot at eight points ahead of Sunday's finale.
Harvey's Schmidt team-mate RC Enerson was closing him down over the final laps but ran out of time and finished up sixth, while Chilton recovered from going a lap down while undergoing repairs from his early indiscretion to cross the line in 11th place.
