Indy Lights Toronto: Spencer Pigot wins, Nelson Piquet hit again
Spencer Pigot completed a clean sweep of the Indy Lights double-header in Toronto with victory in a chaotic race on Sunday
Pigot finished just over three seconds ahead of Jack Harvey as the pair were the only drivers in the field to emerge unscathed from a race marred by wet conditions and over-exuberant driving.
Ed Jones spun from second place down to last on the warm-up lap and he later tangled with Juan Piedrahita, but was still able to cross the line in third - albeit more than a minute down on the two front runners.
None of the other cars still running at the end finished within two laps of the leaders; a legacy of time wasted in the pits undergoing repairs following contact with the wall or a rival.
Nelson Piquet Jr was once again the innocent victim of another driver's mistake when he was hit from behind for the second time of the weekend.
On this occasion the aggressor was Kyle Kaiser, who was running in fourth but became too impatient when he sensed he might be able to claim third.
RC Enerson - who walked away from a massive accident on Saturday when he rear-ended Piquet - was able to make it onto the grid despite the Schmidt team's earlier pessimism about whether it could prepare a car in time.
But the team's efforts were squandered when he spun at Turn 11 under yellow flags, sending him into the pits to have a broken toe-link replaced.
Enerson had been running in second place when he crashed, and the team's misery was completed when his team-mates Scott Anderson and Ethan Ringel also crashed into the wall.
