Gustavo Yacaman takes pole position for Indy Lights race at Indianapolis

Gustavo Yacaman took his maiden Indy Lights pole position in qualifying for the biggest race of the season at Indianapolis

The 21-year-old Colombian completed his two-lap qualifying run in 1m35.991s at a speed of 187.517mph in his Team Moore Racing car to break a three-year run of poles at the Brickyard by Sam Schmidt Motorsports.

Schmidt's best driver was Victor Carbone in second; the Brazilian lapping at 187.166mph. F3 Euro Series convert Carlos Munoz was the best rookie in third for Andretti Autosports ahead of what will be his first race on an oval.

Belardi's Jorge Goncalvez and Yacaman's team-mate David Ostella start fourth and fifth; the latter in a career-best grid spot. Team E driver Brandon Wagner will start sixth.

Completing the top 10 were Israeli Alon Day (Belardi), series debutant Emerson Newton-John (Fan Force United), Tristan Vautier (Schmidt) and points leader Sebastian Saavedra (AFS/Andretti).

Irishman Peter Dempsey will start 13th on his debut with Younessi Racing while Briton Oli Webb qualified one place further back in his Schmidt car.
