Fontana Indy Lights: Sebastian Saavedra claims pole
Sebastian Saavedra took pole position for the final Indy Lights race of the season at Fontana
For much of the session the man to beat was the Colombian's Andretti team-mate Carlos Munoz, who posted a speed of 188.984mph, but Saavedra was able to better him late on with a 189.640mph effort.
"It was great to have Carlos go ahead of us," said Saavedra, who is doing double-duty in Indy Lights and IndyCar this weekend. "He gave us great information that I used for my run, and that was it.
"I'm going to go out there and try to win this and finish the season on a high note."
Title contender Esteban Guerrieri was third-quickest with 188.625mph, while main rival Tristan Vautier could manage no better than fifth-fastest behind Jorge Goncalvez.
"I think I lost some time in Turns 3 and 4, so I'll have to figure out what I did wrong," said Vautier. "We think right now we're missing a little something, but we'll work on it for the race."
