Scott Pruett in line for Action Express Daytona 24 Hours seat
Scott Pruett is in line for a return to the Daytona 24 Hours with the Action Express team, following his departure from Chip Ganassi Racing
Pruett, who would be seeking a record sixth Daytona victory at the IMSA SportsCar Championship opener in January, tested the lead Action Express Coyote-Chevrolet Corvette DP alongside regulars Christian Fittipaldi and Joao Barbosa over the course of this week's official test at the Florida venue.
The try-out on Tuesday and Wednesday came in the wake of his departure from Ganassi, with whom he took four of his Daytona victories, and his signing with the RSR Racing-run Lexus squad.
The 55-year-old will lead development of its Lexus RC-F GT3 racer ahead of an entry into the GT Daytona class of the IMSA series later in the season.
Pruett said: "It's been awesome to be working with Action Express.
"It's interesting to feel the differences in this type of car, because this is the first time I've driven a Prototype other than a Ganassi car [a Riley chassis]."
The lead Action Express Coyote was also tested by Audi LMP1 driver Filipe Albuquerque, whose appearances at Daytona over the past three years included a GTD class victory with Alex Job Racing in 2013.
Action Express has run three drivers at Daytona for the past two years, with Sebastien Bourdais joining Fittipaldi and Barbosa on both occasions.
The team, winner of the Tudor United SportsCar Championship in 2014-15, also tested IndyCar frontrunner Simon Pagenaud in its second car as a potential team-mate for Dane Cameron and Eric Curran.
Sportscar veteran Peter Dumbreck, who last raced at Daytona in 2014 in a Krohn Racing Ferrari, and 2012 Indy Lights champion Tristan Vautier were both given runs in the Spirit of Daytona Coyote-Chevrolet.
They are candidates to join Marc Goossens and Ryan Dalziel in the car for the four long races that make up the North American Endurance Cup element of the IMSA series.
Prototype Challenge graduate Sean Rayhall joined the DeltaWing squad to drive its Elan/Mazda-engined DWC13 alongside Andy Meyrick and Katherine Legge at the test.
New Indy Lights champion Spencer Pigot was given a run in the SpeedSource Mazda team's Lola LMP2, which was running a petrol engine based on the Lights turbo unit developed by AER in the UK.
