Petit Le Mans United SportsCar: Christian Fittipaldi takes pole

Christian Fittipaldi took pole position for the points-leading Action Express team in qualifying for the Petit Le Mans United SportsCar Championship finale at Road Atlanta

The Brazilian, who leads the Prototype standings together with full-season team-mate Joao Barbosa, claimed his first pole of the season and the second for the car with a 1m14.508s lap set at the end of a truncated session interrupted by two red flags.

Fittipaldi's time aboard his Coyote-Chevrolet Corvette DP put him two tenths of a second ahead of Ricky Taylor in the Wayne Taylor Racing Dallara-Chevrolet Corvette DP.

"After the second red we knew we were only going to be able to get a couple of laps maximum, so I aimed to do it on my second lap," said Fittipaldi.

Richard Westbrook ended up third in the Spirit of Daytona Coyote-Chevrolet, with Scott Pruett fourth in the Chip Ganassi Racing Riley-Ford EcoBoost DP.

TANDY LEADS GT FIELD FOR PORSCHE

Porsche driver Nick Tandy became the 11th different GT Le Mans pole winner in the 11 races of this year's USC.

The Briton set two laps good enough for the class pole in the #911 factory CORE Autosport 911 RSR.

He ended up on a 1m38.350s, which put him three tenths ahead of Risi Ferrari driver Giancarlo Fisichella.

"We went pretty aggressive on our strategy and knew we were only going to get two quick laps," said Tandy.

"We were aiming for the quick times on laps three and four and I did times good enough for pole on both of them."

The RSR Racing team blocked out the top two positions in the one-make Prototype Challenge class, with Jack Hawksworth ending up fastest on a 1m16.210s and team-mate Bruno Junqueira two tenths behind.

Australian James Davison claimed his fourth straight GT Daytona class pole for The Racers Group Aston Martin team with a 1m22.254s lap.

Second place went to Jan Heylen, who trimmed his time aboard the Snow Racing Porsche 911 GT America on his penultimate flying lap to end up a shade over a tenth in arrears.
