Lance Stroll to race Daytona 24 Hours with Ford Chip Ganassi Racing
Williams development driver Lance Stroll will make his sportscar debut when he competes in the 2016 Daytona 24 Hours with Ford Chip Ganassi Racing next month.
Stroll, who will contest the F3 European Championship with Prema Powerteam in 2016, will co-drive a Ford EcoBoost prototype with Brendon Hartley, Alex Wurz and Andy Priaulx.
Last year's winners Jamie McMurray, Kyle Larson, Tony Kanaan and Scott Dixon form a second prototype entry alongside the outfit's two GT Le Mans machines.
"We're proud to have the defending prototype champions from last year, along with the excitement worldwide with the reintroduction of the Ford GT," said team owner Chip Ganassi said.
"I think we've built a very strong effort for the 2016 race in the prototype class, which gives us two more solid chances to get to victory lane."
Stroll will get behind the wheel for the first time at the three-day "Roar Before The 24" test, which begins on January 8.
"I'm focused on single-seaters in 2016 but when an opportunity comes along to compete in one of the world's greatest and definitely North America's most famous sports car race, with one of America's most successful teams in Ford Chip Ganassi Racing, it was too great an offer to turn down," said Stroll.
"The test and race will help keep me race-sharp and in shape over the winter in readiness for the Euro F3 season that starts in early April."
The Daytona entry is part of Ford's new GT programme that will see it return to the Le Mans 24 Hour in 2016.
The manufacturer will compete in the French classic, and both the full World Endurance Championship and United SportsCar Championship next year.
