Le Mans TWR Jaguars to lead XJ220-C parade at Silverstone Classic

The three cars have not run together in public since the 1993 edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours, but will now take to the Silverstone GP track during the July 28-30 weeekend to head a parade of XJ220s.

The road-going XJ220, of which just 271 were built, was produced over three years starting in 1992 and was the fastest production car at the time with a recorded top speed of 212mph.

Having been involved in the production of the car, TWR took a three-strong works-supported squad to Le Mans but only one car finished as engine failures sidelined the other two.

The David Coulthard/David Brabham/John Neilson car was the first finisher in the GT ranks but was later disqualified following an administrative issue with the French authorities.

The eligibility dispute centred on whether the cars should have been running catalytic converters.

Although they were subsequently proved to be fully compliant, the disqualification stood as the ACO confirmed the appeal had not been lodged within the correct time-frame.

All three cars will run in original liveries at Silverstone, and the Paul Belmondo/Jay Cochran/Andreas Fuchs car has recently been restored to original specification by Don Law Racing.

The car is being shipped from Japan to be part of the celebration, while the Coulthard car comes from the collection of JD Classics.
