Zuber tipped to impress in GT1

After four seasons in GP2, the 26-year-old Austrian has moved away from single-seaters to join long-time FIA GT frontrunner Mike Hezemans in the new Phoenix Carsport alliance's lead Corvette.

Theimann told this week's AUTOSPORT magazine that Zuber had impressed in his maiden GT test with the squad at Paul Ricard last week.

"It was the first time had driven with a roof over his head, but he was very cool," he said.

Zuber is one of a range of high-profile GT1 signings, with former Formula 1 racer Enrique Bernoldi also confirmed in the championship this week, and top sportscar drivers Darren Turner, Tomas Enge, Peter Dumbreck, Stefan Mucke, Dominik Schwager, Christophe Bouchut and Michael Krumm among the others committed to the new series.

"Teams understand that this could become something big and, if new manufacturers come in, they will have to do it through the existing teams," GT1 boss Stephane Ratel told AUTOSPORT.

"That's why they are employing top drivers, because they want to win races and prove they are the best in the championship."
