Will Stevens testing WRT Audi GT car as he eyes more post-F1 racing

The 24-year-old Briton is driving one of the Belgian squad's Audi R8 LMS GT3 cars at Misano on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by a further two days at Monza on Thursday and Friday.

Stevens, who will drive Manor's new LMP2 ORECA-Nissan 05 in the WEC, told Autosport: "I want to do a lot of racing this year, so if a second programme is available, it would be something that I would look at.

"My goal is to make a long and successful career, and the best way of doing that is to work with a manufacturer, so it will help if I can jump between different types of car and be competitive.

"This test will be good experience for me."

It is unclear what the test with Blancpain GT Series frontrunner WRT might lead to, given that the team announced its 2016 line-ups last week.

Team boss Vincent Vosse explained that he had first been in contact with Stevens at the end of 2014, before the Briton's chance with the Manor Racing F1 squad came up for last season.

"We've been talking for more than a year and we thought we'd give him this opportunity to go testing," he said.

"The aim is to do the four days and then see what is possible."

Vosse wouldn't speculate on whether WRT could add to the five cars it announced for the BGTS Sprint Cup and four for the BGTS Endurance Cup.

Stevens revealed that he "felt comfortable straight away" in the R8 LMS at Misano on Tuesday.

"I really enjoyed driving the car and had a good feel for it" he said.

Stevens stressed that he wanted "to keep every single option open for my future" and that he wasn't closing the door on single-seaters after failing to retain his F1 seat.
