Werner switches to Champion
Marco Werner, who won last year's American Le Mans Series with Joest Racing, will replace Johnny Herbert at Champion Racing alongside JJ Lehto in 2004
Joest, along with Werner's co-champion Frank Biela, has withdrawn from the ALMS this season to run a works Audi team in the DTM. Werner's place at Champion, which runs an Audi R8, is in part due to his strong links with the German marque.
Lehto, who finished a narrow second in the standings to Werner and Biela last season, said: "It will be a nice set-up. Marco is a very good driver and he did a good job last year. He won the championship, and I haven't won it yet, so maybe now it will be my turn. We always try to be better than anyone we race against, whoever that is."
Champion will run with backing from Audi Sport North America. Len Hunt, the vice-president of Audi of America, said: "Champion Racing has proven to be one of the best teams in sports car racing and we look forward to providing them with support for another successful year."
