Turner confirms Nissan race deal
Darren Turner has confirmed that he will race Nissan's GT-R in four rounds of this season's FIA GT Championship
The Japanese manufacturer announced in February that its NISMO-developed GT1 car would be run by the Gigawave Motorsport team in four of the series races, ahead of the proposed 2010 GT1 world championship.
Turner, who is also racing one of Aston Martin's LMP1 cars in the Le Mans Series, was expected to share the Nissan with Michael Krumm and today announced his deal to race at Silverstone, Oschersleben, the Spa 24 Hours and one more event to be decided.
"I'm looking forward to helping NISMO and Gigawave develop the GT-R to make sure it is competitive in time for the new regulations in 2010," said Turner. "It's a real privilege to play a part in such an exciting programme. It's also good to be racing in the FIA GT Championship again as I have had some good results there in the past."
A Nissan statement explained that the 2009 programme has been put in place to "check the performance of cars to be sold to racing teams competing in the FIA-GT1 class," although the car will not not be eligible for points this season.
The GT-R will makes its FIA GT debut in the season opener at Silverstone on May 3.
