Toni Vilander grabs Bathurst 12 Hour pole for Maranello Ferrari

Having set the pace in Saturday's earlier qualifying sessions, Vilander produced a stunning effort of 2m02.861s on his single flying lap in the shootout, finding almost two tenths in the final sector in the 488 GT3 to grab pole with the final effort of the session.

The Finn's lap also secured the Allan Simonsen Trophy for himself and his team-mates, Australian Supercars drivers Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup.

Fellow Supercars driver Chaz Mostert recorded an impressive lap of his own to secure second in the #90 MARC GT BMW M6 with a 2m03.055s.

Mostert's effort knocked the factory-backed BMW Team SRM M6 off the front row, with two-time DTM champion Marco Wittmann forced to settle for third with a 2m03.249s - his lap having been half a second faster than anyone else's before Vilander and Mostert's runs.

The #35 Miedecke Stone Aston Martin made up the most ground from its regular qualifying position, Ash Walsh making up four spots to finish up on the outside of the second row having run third in the shootout.

Maxime Soulet took fifth in the #8 M-Sport Bentley Continental, while Alvaro Parente was another big mover, taking the #1 Tekno McLaren - which only just secured a spot in the shootout on combined times from qualifying - from 10th to sixth.

Earl Bamber ended up seventh in the #911 Walkinshaw Porsche, while Timo Glock slipped back to eighth in the #7 BMW Team SRM car after making a mistake at Turn 1.

Matt Campbell was another man to slip back in the #12 Competition Motorsports Porsche 991, ending up ninth, while Nathan Antunes was slowest of those to progress to the shootout in the #5 GT Motorsport Audi and will start 10th.

YOUNG BRITS OUT AFTER CRASHES

British debutants Ben Barnicoat and Ricky Collard will not take part in Sunday's race after their respective cars were withdrawn from the event as a result of qualifying incidents.

Barnicoat - driving a McLaren 650S with Tekno Autosports, which won last year's 12 Hour - hit the wall on the exit of The Chase in the closing stages of the hour-long first qualifying session.

Damage as a reuslt of that crash was enough to rule the 20-year-old and team-mates Jonny Kane and Will Davison - who also won last year's Bathurst 1000 Supercars race - out of the event.

Collard, meanwhile, will also miss out after his Walkenhorst BMW M6 was spun by Hallmarc Audi driver Lee Holdsworth.
