SUNRED switches from Ford to BMW for FIA GT Series programme
The Spanish SUNRED Engineering team is swapping from Ford to BMW for its assault on this year's FIA GT Series under the Indian flag
The former SEAT World Touring Car Championship squad will field a solo BMW Z4 GT3 under the BMW Sports Trophy Team India banner following its entry into the international sportscar arena in the 2012 FIA GT1 World Championship with a Ford GT.
SUNRED has become the third team to sign up to run with BMW in the successor to GT1 World, joining Vita4One Racing (pictured) and Antonio Hermann's Brazilian squad as a full-series entrant.
The SUNRED BMW, which will run in the Pro-Am class, will be raced by single-seater convert Armaan Ebrahim, who made a one-off appearance in the SUNRED Ford last year.
Italian Matteo Cressoni, who contested five races with the team in 2012, looks set to be the Indian driver's team-mate.
SUNRED team manager Franck Tine, whose squad won the World Touring Car Independents' crown with SEAT and Tom Coronel in 2009, said: "I am proud to announce this new team for the FIA GT Series. We've found great people to work with in BMW Motorsport, and the Indian project with Armaan is really interesting for the future."
Ebrahim has previously raced in Indy Lights, GP2 Asia and Formula 2.
"Moving from formula cars to GTs will be a new challenge though I had a taste of it in Moscow last year," he said.
"I also liked my GT experience last year and thus have finalised a full year's drive for this year."
The six-round FIA GT Series kicks off at Nogaro on March 31/April 1.
