Smith joins Sebring entry

"Dyson Racing has always been at the top of racing in America," said Smith. "It is a prestigious team to drive for with a great history - so many great drivers have driven for them and I am honoured to be in such company."

The Dyson team's Lolas were often among the fastest cars on the circuit during the 2004 ALMS season, qualifying on pole for six of the nine races. But, save for one convincing victory at Mosport Park, they were beaten to the winner's circle on every occasion by Champion Racing's Audi R8.

A key factor in the Audi's formidable race pace was the superiority of its Michelin tyres. Having switched to the French manufacturer for 2005, Dyson Racing is confident of being able to get on terms with the Champion team - especially after a strong two-day, three-car test at Sebring before Christmas.

"Now that the team's Lolas will be running Michelin tyres this year, that should bring the competitiveness to a whole new level and we will be able to take the fight to the Audis," declared Smith.

The 12 Hours of Sebring on March 19 is the curtain-raiser for the 2005 ALMS season. Smith has already posted four top-four finishes in the Florida classic in the past.

"I have known Guy for a number of years and have always admired his ability," said Chris Dyson. "He has been successful in both sportscars and open-wheel racing. There is no question that he has the pace. But importantly, he has an innate understanding of the strategy and teamwork needed to win sportscar races. That is a great combination to have in a co-driver."
