Nicolas Minassian set the fastest time in final qualifying for the Spa 1000km Le Mans Endurance Series race, snatching pole position in his Creation Autosportif DBA-Zytek from Allan McNish by just 0.038s

With the track fuly dry, times were substantially faster than this morning's damp session. However, it looked at first as if the end result would be the same, with McNish setting an early flying lap of 2m06.002s in the Audi Sport UK R8 he shares with Pierre Kaffer.

But with 15 minutes to go Minassian fully demonstrated the outright speed of the DBA machine he shares with Jamie Campbell-Walter, lapping the Belgian track in 2m05.964s to steal honours.

Johnny Herbert set the third fastest time in the second Audi UK R8, ahead of Rinaldo Capello in the Team Goh run example. Thomas Erdos was fifth in the Ray Mallock MG Lola, ahead of Joao Barbosa's Rollcentre Dallara-Judd.

Uwe Alzen secured the GTS class pole in his Saleen S7R, setting a best time of 2m18.221s to edgy Pedro Lamy's Ferrari 550 Maranello.

Emanuelle Collard emerged triumphant from a long battle for GT honours with Andrew Kirkaldy, setting a best time of 2m25.264s in his Freisinger Porsche to edge the Scot by 0.412s.

Jonathan Cochet was fastest in the LM2 category in his Courage-AER, edging the similar machine run by Paul Belmondo Racing.
